The English Club

The English Club was started in September 2020 to provide students in India with access to English tutoring and American teaching. Over the course of 10 weeks, I teach students new essay writing techniques, have students practice writing essays, review and critique their essays, and facilitate book club discussions and analyses.

How the Club Works

I teach students essay writing techniques, give them formatting and grammar tips, and provide book club reading. Once a lesson is taught, the students practice writing, and I edit their work for feedback. The book club aspect includes two books throughout the 10 week session, in which we read and analyze the story with rhetorical devices and in-depth conversations.

Class Structure

  1. Students will attend zoom calls once a week for one hour sessions.

  2. During calls, students will discuss concepts, or learn from lectures about essay writing.

  3. Five writing workshops will be included throughout the course's duration.

  4. Multiple essays will be assigned, and students will be given constructive feedback on how to improve their writing.

  5. Homework and classwork will be assigned via google classroom.

Course Objectives

1. Improve students’ essay writing skills.

2. Learn about literary classics, and analyze the book club material in an academic style.
