I have been a bharatanatyam dancer since 2011 with the Ushanjali School of Dance. My Guru, Smt. Naina Shastri, taught me for eight years before I completed my arangethram. Dancing has taught me about my culture and religion, and how to be disciplined. I enjoy the creativity and athleticism that it takes to be a dancer, and my years of learning this art form will be cherished forever.
WHAT IS AN arangethraM?
Traditionally, an arangethram is performed as a dancer's first solo dance debut into society. This occurs after around eight years of learning and mastering the dance style, and the performance lasts two to three hours. Today, arangethrams are completed as a graduation ceremony, and it is a way to showcase the mastering of a dance style.
about my arangethram
I completed my bharatanatyam arangethram on August 3, 2019 at Dougherty Valley High School. My solo performance lasted two and a half hours, and was accompanied by a live singer and orchestra. The performance program consisted of eight dances varying in length and language. The dances consisted of purely dance steps, expression pieces, and a combination of both.
